The Celebration Of The Day – Peace, Pray, Yoga! Namaste!

“Heal the world, make it a better place, for you and for me and the entire human race…” that’s how the great Michael Jackson keeps singing for us since the 90s.

That’s what we all wish for. A peaceful world where we can all live happily ever after. Right?

Well, today, 21st June is the day we celebrate World Peace and Prayer Day. 2017 is the 22nd year our world gets to celebrate this day. Based on my research, the first ceremony was held back in 1995, on this very day.

21st June is also the first day of summer, the Summer Solstice Day. And they say that the Summer Solstice is the most powerful time to pray and wish for peace.

And also, today is the day when Yoga is celebrated worldwide also.

Well, in order to have peace in this world, we need to be and feel relaxed, to have a happy home and to make healthy connections with the rest of the world.

Is Yoga the answer!? That’s what we’re about to find out next.

World Peace and Prayer Day

Today is the day we pray for peace! World Peace and Prayer day is an international celebration for people of all nations, races, ages, genders, faith. It’s a day when those who care and share the concern for the welfare of our humankind and our planet get together and pray.

I know, not all of us know about today, just those that joined these types of communities. How they celebrate? They meet and honor sacred places from all around the world. These places can be unique, spiritual, historical or hold mythological significance. With that said, these places are sacred sources of power.

Since it’s a day for prayer too, it offers another opportunity for all the church communities to act together as well.

And even more, if you’re not into any of this peace and prayer groups, you have the ultimate and best option – just pray and wish by yourself. We don’t always need to be in groups or with other people to do it alongside with others. And you can do it on your own day by day, or whenever you feel like, not just today.

Because let’s face it, it always starts with me, if I’m at peace with myself, then I can be ok with everyone else.

“When you find peace within yourself, you become the kind of person who can live at peace with others,” says Peace Pilgrim. Exactly my point. It starts with us! Always!

International Yoga Day

And what works best for our inner peace if not yoga? Well, at least, that’s what they say. I’m not a yoga person. But, today, on Peace and Prayer day, our world also celebrates International Yoga Day.

Pretty accurate, if you ask me! 🙂

So, let me just ask this, since I’m not practicing it – what is Yoga? The official answer is this – a Hindu spiritual and ascetic discipline, a part of which, including breath control, simple meditation, and the adoption of specific bodily postures, is widely practiced for health and relaxation.

The other answer I found it in this quote about yoga, from Donna Farhi, a yoga teacher, and bestselling author. In her opinion, “Yoga does not remove us from the reality or responsibilities of everyday life but rather places our feet firmly and resolutely in the practical ground of experience. We don’t transcend our lives; we return to the life we left behind in the hopes of something better.”

Now, getting back to my question and finding a good answer. I understand that yoga is about finding that balance that will keep us going with our lives. It takes care of our bodies, minds, and spirits.

So, yes, keeping our life balanced and hoping for the best, these are the keys to a peaceful life and world. It kind of sounds so easy. But facing the reality we’re actually living these days, it sounds so hard.

And no, a balanced life is not something that we need to find, it’s something we create for ourselves. And it doesn’t mean we always have to do things. We can all take a break and enjoy doing nothing. I find that pretty smart and comforting, actually.

My Conclusion is Simple!

“Peace starts within each one of us. When we have inner peace, we can be at peace with those around us” – Dalai Lama

In my opinion, it’s important for us to be happy and to be genuinely content with our own lives before we can actually be at peace, like they say, with other people.

Because when all is right with you, with the way you live and with those around you, then you can focus on making this world a better place. But, then again, being happy with what you do implies a healthy happy and good relationship with everything around you – from nature to people and animals.

That perfect little world never existed and will never be, because that’s life. Ying and Yang all the way, good and bad. Yes, in fairy tales, the good always win, so why wouldn’t it be the same in real life? The way things progress today, it makes us wonder and think about a not-so-good future. But, let’s hope, pray and have faith that it’s all going to be ok. And, we can actually take care of our bodies, minds, and spirits. Not only with yoga, but with positive thoughts, good energy, and an equilibrated life.

On a funny note, I find my own peace and quiet in every cup of coffee. And the rest just follows. 🙂

To end my post, I chose this song because I really like it and because it matches my topic.
