A notable change of perspective inspired by positive quotes for men

In ancient times, Marcus Aurelius, would inspire people with statements like: “Waste no more time arguing about what a good man should be. Be one.” I think this is a perfect example of a timeless way of thinking. Looking at it from the point of view of the times during which it was stated, it makes perfect sense. However, this particular quote can really apply to anyone, regardless of the time, place, or gender they might be a part of.

The empowering concept of being a man

Francois-Xavier Fabre created the painting entitled Portrait of a Man in 1809. This illustrious piece of work depicts the typical ideal man of his nineteenth century day and age. It’s definitely safe to say that things have changed nowadays. Today’s society is becoming more accepting of the ways people choose to depict their personal genre-related style.

For this reason, it may prove to be quite a difficult task to read positive quotes for men without feeling like they stem from some sort of prefabricated idea about strength and righteousness.

Many funny quotes for men have been uttered time and time again as well. However, we live in an era where equality is becoming a huge, valued element of society. This is the reason why many people are starting to accept various styles, characters and unique ideologies on what it means to be a man.

The wise Abraham Lincoln once said, “Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power.” An interesting point which seems to apply to most individuals on the planet. In modern times, though this is a statement which could very well apply to women as well.

Quotes on good men are truly uplifting

Don’t be fooled into thinking quotes on good men don’t exist. On the contrary. Just like multiple amazing women have left their mark on history, so have a huge number of exceptional men.

Kevin James confesses the following: “I had many teachers that were great, positive role models and taught me to be a good person and stand up and be a good man. A lot of the principals they taught me still affect how I act sometimes and it’s 30 years later.

Maxim Gorky shares his unique perspective “A good man can be stupid and still be good. But a bad man must have brains.” And Sallust adds: “A good man would prefer to be defeated than to defeat injustice by evil means.

Sometimes it seems like the ideal image of what men should aspire to become is perhaps only achievable in movies.

However, this does not stop many from trying to capture the very essence of what it means to embody the concept of being a manly man: tough and rugged. But many would argue this is not the way to go for long-term results.

Men are from Earth, just like women. Deal with it.

Cynics like George Carlin also like to put their two cents worth in: “Here’s all you have to know about men and women: women are crazy, men are stupid. And the main reason women are crazy is that men are stupid.

Virginia Woolf was wondering “Why are women… so much more interesting to men than men are to women?” Nevertheless, it was Elizabeth Peters who made an excellent point when it comes to the ideal relationship that women want from men. She said that “No woman really wants a man to carry her off; she only wants him to want to do it.” This might just be the subtlety behind all confusions in the relationship between men and women.

However, those like Katharine Hepburn think that “men and women (…) should live next door and just visit now and then.” That’s one way to look at it.

Gender equality today

It has been scientifically proven that, while men tend to occupy a somewhat superior position in society due to their gender, positive quotes about men are scarce. This might be due to an inherent need that people have to reestablish some sort of equilibrium.

Even men join the cause and, like Andy Rooney, they agree that: “Yes, we praise women over 40 for a multitude of reasons. Unfortunately, it’s not reciprocal. For every stunning, smart, well-coiffed, hot woman over 40, there is a bald, paunchy relic in yellow pants making a fool of himself with some 22-year old waitress. Ladies, I apologize. For all those men who say, “Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?”, here’s an update for you. Nowadays 80% of women are against marriage. Why? Because women realize it’s not worth buying an entire pig just to get a little sausage!

Equality is not something to overlook. In her novel Gaudy Night, Dorothy L. Sayers writes: “Wherever you find a great man, you will find a great mother or a great wife standing behind him ― or so they used to say. It would be interesting to know how many great women have had great fathers and husbands behind them.

In The Painted Veil, W. Somerset Maugham makes the observation that “If a man hasn’t what’s necessary to make a woman love him, it’s his fault, not hers.” Nonetheless, some would say it goes both ways. You just have to replace the word ‘man’ or ‘woman’ with ‘person’ or ‘individual’ and you’ve got yourself the key to modern times. Welcome to the 21st century!

It is a growing belief that men shouldn’t really achieve a preordained image based on ideas of what it means to be a masculine. They should instead, like everyone else on the planet take inspiration from one of the top comediennes and talk show hosts of 2017, Ellen DeGeneres and “be who you really are. Embrace who you are. Literally. Hug yourself. Accept who you are. Unless you’re a serial killer.
