In 2000 the distillery was mothballed and closed a year later. Bottlings from the distillery are very popular at auctions and often fetch six figure amounts. Karuizawa Cask Strength 1st Release matured the entire time in a single sherry butt. Bottled in 2013 for the Taiwanese market
